Reports of a violent Peter Obi attack in Benin City have sparked tension following a move by Olumide Akpata to the ADC.
There was chaos in Benin City, Edo State, on Tuesday as gunmen reportedly targeted the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi.
The National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Yunusa Tanko, raised the alarm, describing the incident as a narrow escape from a planned assassination.
The trouble started during an event to welcome the former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Olumide Akpata, into the African Democratic Congress (ADC). What was meant to be a political declaration quickly turned into a scene of violence.
According to Tanko, armed thugs trailed Peter Obi and the ADC leadership from the party’s secretariat all the way to the residence of Chief John Odigie-Oyegun.
The attackers didn't stop there; they allegedly opened fire at the entrance of the house.
While no lives were reported lost, the damage was significant. Several vehicles in the convoy were smashed and destroyed during the ambush.
In a swift statement titled "Breaking Red Alert," Tanko warned that the attack was a direct threat to Nigeria's democracy.
The movement is calling for an immediate investigation into the incident, insisting that such violence has no place in a civil society. As of now, the atmosphere in the state remains tense as supporters react to the shocking news.
