Residents of the Peze community in the Byazhi area of Kubwa are living in fear after gunmen invaded their homes on Tuesday night.

The attackers, who were heavily armed, reportedly abducted 16 people during an operation that lasted about thirty minutes.

The gunmen moved from house to house between 9:30 p.m. and 10:00 p.m., threatening to kill anyone who refused to open their doors.

According to witnesses, the kidnappers had earlier hidden in an uncompleted building to monitor the area before they began their raid.

The attack has left several families devastated. Among those taken were four children belonging to a local pastor who was away from home at the time. The kidnappers took all but his youngest child.

In another chilling incident, the gunmen targeted the home of a local vigilante commander. They abducted his wife and her younger sister, leaving behind a newborn baby who is not yet 40 days old.

Shockingly, residents claimed the attackers even ate the food the woman was cooking before dragging her away into the bush.

The vigilante commander was out on patrol when he received a distress call. By the time he rushed back, the gunmen had already surrounded his house and opened fire on him before escaping with his family.

Security operatives arrived at the scene after the kidnappers had already fled with their victims. Reports indicate that the abductors have since contacted the families to demand ransom for their release.

This latest incident follows a similar kidnapping in the area on January 4. Community members are now calling on the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) authorities to deploy more security personnel to Bwari Area Council to stop the rising wave of insecurity.
