Suspected Boko Haram terrorists have brought sorrow to a nomadic settlement in Borno State. The attackers invaded Wuturo community in Konduga Local Government Area on Tuesday night, leaving one person dead.

Police authorities confirmed the incident on Thursday. According to reports, the gunmen rode into the settlement on five motorcycles at about 10:30 pm. They launched a surprise attack on the herders and their livestock.

The invasion turned deadly for 40-year-old Ahmadu Baida. He sustained fatal gunshot injuries during the raid and was confirmed dead at the hospital. Another herder 30-year-old Mohammadu Baida, was not so lucky; he survived but suffered a gunshot wound to his leg.

The attackers did not just target lives; they went for assets. The terrorists rustled about 1,400 sheep belonging to the herdsmen before fleeing the scene. This represents a massive economic loss for the local community.

The Borno State Police Command has reacted swiftly to the assault. A combined team of police, military, and local hunters mobilized to the area immediately. The injured victim is currently receiving treatment and responding well.

Commissioner of Police Naziru Abdulmajid has ordered a manhunt for the perpetrators. He directed tactical teams to deploy across the area to track down the terrorists and recover the stolen animals.

This attack adds to the growing security concerns in the region. It comes just days after a fierce gun battle at an army base in Kukawa Local Government Area. Despite ongoing military operations, these sporadic attacks continue to challenge peace efforts.
