The Delta State Police Command has struck a major blow against violent crime, neutralising a suspected kidnapper and rescuing three hostages following a fierce shootout in Issele-Uku.

The operation, which also led to the recovery of a sophisticated firearm, marks a significant victory in the Command’s sustained offensive against criminal elements in the state.

‎According to a statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the breakthrough followed a distress call received on March 16, 2026.

Upon receiving the report of a kidnapping, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Issele-Uku, CSP Aderemi Badiru, mobilised a joint team.

This force, comprising police operatives, military personnel, local vigilantes, and hunters, launched an immediate coordinated search of the surrounding bushes.

‎The manhunt culminated in a violent confrontation. Security forces engaged the kidnappers in a heavy exchange of gunfire. One suspect sustained fatal injuries during the clash, while the three victims were rescued unharmed and reunited with their families.

‎Following the shootout, a thorough sweep of the area led to the arrest of Ahmadu Hassan, a 22-year-old native of Kange Village in Nasarawa State.

The suspect, found with gunshot wounds, is currently receiving treatment under police guard. Operatives also recovered an AK-47 rifle loaded with four rounds of live ammunition from the scene.

‎The Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola, lauded the gallantry and synergy displayed by the security team.

He reiterated the Command’s resolve to dismantle criminal networks across the state, appealing to residents to provide timely intelligence to aid ongoing operations. Investigations are active to apprehend the remaining fleeing members of the syndicate.
