Barely 24 hours into his second term, Governor Chukwuma Soludo dismisses all political appointees to reorganise the Anambra State administration.

AWKA (Obgist) – Governor Chukwuma Soludo has relieved all political appointees in his administration of their duties, signalling a total administrative reset just one day after his second-term inauguration.

The Governor directed all affected officials to hand over to Permanent Secretaries or the most senior civil servants within their respective ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs). 

A circular signed by Nwabufo Nwankwo, the Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, mandated the completion of the handover process by the close of work on Wednesday, March 18, 2026.

This decisive move ensures institutional continuity. It clears the path for the Governor to constitute a fresh cabinet for his second four-year mandate. 

Consequently, Soludo has invited members of the outgoing first-term cabinet to a final consultative meeting scheduled for March 23 at the ANSEC Chambers in Awka.

A Renewed Mandate

Soludo and his deputy, Onyeka Ibezim, took their oaths of office on Tuesday at the Alex Ekwueme Square in the state capital. Their return to Government House follows a decisive victory in the November 8, 2025, governorship election.

In his inaugural address, the Governor struck a triumphant tone regarding the security situation in the state. He declared the end of the "sit-at-home" era, asserting that schools, markets, and businesses have fully resumed operations. 

"Ndi Anambra says that ours is now the safest, or at least one of the safest states in Nigeria," Soludo stated, highlighting the restoration of social order as a primary achievement of his first term.

Top National Presence

The inauguration drew a heavy presence of national stakeholders and sub-national leaders. Vice President Kashim Shettima represented the Presidency, joined by former presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan. 

Other notable figures included the former Commonwealth Secretary-General, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, and Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.

This sweeping dismissal of the state's political top brass marks the formal conclusion of the first phase of the Soludo administration. Observers view the speed of the dissolution as a clear intent to hit the ground running. 

As the Governor navigates the macro-economic headwinds currently facing the South-East, the composition of his next cabinet remains a subject of intense speculation among regional political watchers.
