Kano residents receive Dangote rice palliatives as Governor Yusuf flags off the distribution of 100,000 bags.
Kano State has officially started the distribution of 100,000 bags of rice to help its most vulnerable residents during the holy month of Ramadan.
The massive food aid was donated by the Aliko Dangote Foundation to cushion the effect of the current economic hardship. Each bag, weighing 10kg, is targeted specifically at the poor and underprivileged across the state.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who performed the official flag-off ceremony, described the donation as a timely intervention. He noted that the gesture would go a long way in providing relief for thousands of struggling families.
State officials have been tasked with coordinating the exercise to ensure the rice reaches those who truly need it. To maintain transparency, the distribution is being closely monitored to avoid any diversion.
This initiative in Kano is part of a much larger mission. The Aliko Dangote Foundation is currently distributing one million bags of rice nationwide to support households facing food insecurity across Nigeria.
For many in Kano, this aid comes as a welcome relief during a period of high food prices and the spiritual demands of the fast.
