BIRNIN KEBBI – Authorities in Kebbi State have handed a three-month suspension to Abduljalal Usman, a classroom teacher, following his refusal to accept the government’s Ramadan palliatives.
The disciplinary measure, which includes a total forfeiture of his salary for the period of three months.
The controversy reportedly stems from Usman’s decision to reject a "mudu" of maize and a "mudu" of millet, a small traditional measure of grain offered by the state.
Beyond the rejection of the grains, the teacher reportedly voiced sharp criticisms of the government for the poor ridicule provisions after the Ramadan fast and level of bad governance in the state.
In a move that observers describe as swift and punitive, the state education authorities enforced the directive after Usman’s public stance against the distribution exercise and served him a three month suspension in writing.
