ABUJA
— Social media personality and philanthropist Mitchell Mukoro, known as "King Mitchy," has issued a formal apology to several high-profile Nigerians following a period of erratic online behaviour. In a video released on Thursday, Mukoro expressed regret for a series of actions that included the consumption of an unknown substance during a live broadcast and the public disrespect of national figures.

The influencer directed her apologies specifically to Seyi Tinubu, son of the President; the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi; and social critic Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan. Mukoro admitted that her actions were beneath the standard expected of someone in the public eye.

"I am ready to be held accountable," Mukoro stated. She acknowledged the negative impact her behaviour had on younger followers, particularly regarding the substance she appeared to ingest on camera. Addressing Seyi Tinubu, whom she referred to as her "boss," she apologised for a public breach of conduct. She also knelt while seeking the forgiveness of the Ooni of Ife for involving the monarch’s name in her social media disputes.

The apology marks a sharp turn in a narrative that has gripped the Nigerian digital space since late February 2026. The friction began after Mukoro claimed to have renovated a dilapidated school in just six days. This feat drew sharp criticism from VeryDarkMan, who suggested the project was a political move intended to burnish the image of the Tinubu administration.

The situation took a dark turn during a live session where Mukoro, appearing distressed, consumed a substance believed to be bleach. Shortly after, her management claimed she had died at Prime Care Hospital in Abuja. The hospital swiftly refuted the report. Management at the facility confirmed that Mukoro was never a patient there and threatened legal action over the misinformation.

Seyi Tinubu also broke his silence to distance himself from the fray. He clarified that his involvement with Mukoro was limited to a single public meeting where he provided financial support for her charitable work. He dismissed allegations of a private feud or life-threatening warnings as complete fabrications.

Mukoro’s latest statement appears to be an attempt at professional and personal damage control. She noted that her recent reflections helped her understand the motives of her critics, specifically VeryDarkMan, whom she now claims to support. Whether this public contrition will restore her standing among stakeholders and her following remains to be seen.
