Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar resigns from the cabinet to pursue his 2027 Bauchi governorship ambition.
A major change has occurred in President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, has officially resigned from his position. He stepped down to focus on his political ambition to govern Bauchi State.
The news was confirmed on Monday by Bashir Ahmad, a former presidential aide. In a post on X, Ahmad revealed that Tuggar submitted his resignation letter. This document is expected to be presented at the Federal Executive Council meeting.
Tuggar’s departure is not entirely unexpected. It comes just hours before the deadline set by the President. Tinubu had directed all appointees seeking elective offices in 2027 to resign on or before March 31, 2026.
By stepping down now, the minister is complying with this directive to pursue the Bauchi gubernatorial ticket. As of the time of this report, Tuggar has not yet released a personal statement regarding his exit.
He joins the list of officials trading their current roles for future political contests.
