A Norwich school stabbing led to a major police lockdown after a teenage girl was attacked during morning lessons.
Residents and parents around Thorpe St Andrew School in Norwich were left in shock on Wednesday after a teenage girl was stabbed on the school premises.
The incident happened around 10:30 a.m., forcing armed police to rush to the school on Laundry Lane. Thankfully, officials confirmed the girl’s injuries are minor, and she was quickly taken to the hospital for treatment.
The suspect, a 16-year-old boy, reportedly jumped over a fence to escape the school grounds immediately after the attack. However, his run did not last long. Police tracked him down and arrested him nearby on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
The teenager is currently being held for questioning at the Wymondham Police Investigation Centre.
While the drama unfolded, the school was placed on high alert. Students were reportedly told to hide under their desks as a safety precaution while emergency crews secured the area. A police cordon remained in place for hours as detectives gathered evidence.
The school is part of the Broad Horizons Education Trust, which has not yet released a full statement on the matter.
In a bid to calm public nerves, Norfolk Police clarified that this stabbing is not related to a separate hate-crime investigation at the same school.
That earlier case involved allegations of antisemitic abuse during a football match against the Jewish Free School last week.
For now, the school remains under watch as authorities continue their investigation into what led to this morning's violence.
