Tinubu Reshuffles Cabinet, Replaces Finance Minister Edun

President Tinubu reshuffles his cabinet, replacing Finance Minister Wale Edun with Taiwo Oyedele in a new governance move.

President Bola Tinubu has given the green light for a minor reshuffle of his cabinet. This move is already changing the makeup of the Federal Executive Council.

A formal memo signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, confirmed the changes. Two ministers are on their way out, and new faces are stepping in.

The biggest shift is at the Ministry of Finance. Wale Edun, who served as the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, has been directed to hand over his duties.

Stepping into Edun's shoes is Mr. Taiwo Oyedele. Until this appointment, Oyedele served as the Minister of State in the same ministry and the man who produce the new Tax law, He now takes the helm as the substantive Finance Minister and Coordinating Minister for the Economy.

There is also a major change at the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development. Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa is exiting the cabinet.

Dr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been named as the ministerial nominee and minister-designate to take over the Housing portfolio. However, he still needs to go through the official confirmation process.

In the meantime, Dangiwa has been instructed to hand over to the current Minister of State in the ministry. This ensures the ministry does not fall into a leadership vacuum while waiting for Darma's confirmation.

There is a strict timeline for these transitions. The government memo clearly states that all handing over and taking over processes must be completed by the close of business on Thursday, April 23, 2026.

Why the sudden changes? The presidency says this is all about governance. The SGF explained that the reshuffle aims to strengthen cohesion and synergy within the cabinet.

It is also designed to deliver a more impactful outcome on the economy for Nigerians. This falls directly in line with the President's Renewed Hope Agenda.

President Tinubu is not acting outside his powers. The SGF noted that the President fully exercised his constitutional rights as outlined in Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution, as amended.

The President did not let the departing ministers leave without a word. He thanked them for their service to the nation and wished them the very best in their future endeavors.

To the remaining cabinet members, the President sent a clear message. There will be no room for complacency. He assured them that the process of reinvigorating the cabinet will be a continuous exercise.
