A fresh political alliance has emerged in Nigeria’s opposition landscape. Supporters of former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi and ex-Kano Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso have launched a new group. It is called the Obi-Kwankwaso Movement, or simply the OK Movement.

The group was unveiled in Abuja with a clear mission. They aim to unite the famous Obidient Movement and the Kwankwasiyya group. Their goal is to push for a joint presidential ticket under the African Democratic Congress (ADC). According to the leadership, the movement is already structured across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

Justin Ijeh, the National Publicity Secretary, spoke about the urgency of this alliance. He noted that Nigerians are facing severe economic hardship and insecurity. He said the movement is a "nationwide engine for systemic reform." Ijeh stressed that they are rejecting politics based on tribalism and religion.

There have been questions about whether this is a split from the main support base. However, Dr. Yunusa Tanko of the Obidient Movement has cleared the air. He confirmed that the OK Movement is working in alignment with existing structures. He insisted there is no division, but rather a united purpose.

The timing of this launch is significant. It comes just as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar declared his interest in the ADC ticket. Atiku has stated he will not step down for anyone. This has caused tension within the opposition ranks. The OK Movement appears to be a strategic response to consolidate power against other heavyweights.

The ADC is quickly becoming the focal point for Nigeria’s opposition. Big names like Nasir El-Rufai and Abubakar Malami have also joined the party. With the OK Movement now active, the race for the 2027 presidential ticket is heating up.

In a related development, the Labour Party has distanced itself from viral posts inviting Obi and Kwankwaso back. The party leadership described those social media messages as fake. For now, all eyes are on the ADC as the political permutations continue to shift.
