A potential tragedy was averted in Borno State thanks to the vigilance of Nigerian troops. Soldiers from Operation Hadin Kai successfully located and destroyed a hidden bomb planted by insurgents.

The incident occurred in Mairari town along the Gajiram axis. Security sources revealed that the dangerous device was found around 9 am on April 17.

An Explosive Ordnance Disposal team from a nearby Forward Operating Base spotted the Improvised Explosive Device (IED). It was cleverly hidden at the edge of the town's exit gate.

This location is a strategic route for both civilians and security personnel. If the bomb had gone undetected, it could have caused massive casualties.

The bomb experts swung into action immediately. They carried out a controlled detonation to ensure the safety of everyone in the vicinity.

After the explosion, the team scanned the area thoroughly. They wanted to be certain that no other explosives were lurking nearby.

Preliminary investigations suggest that insurgents planted the device before the troops arrived. The military has described the security situation in the area as calm but unpredictable. Operations are ongoing to keep the roads safe for all users.
