Kwankwaso shares how his daughter’s advice on Peter Obi reflects a wider youth demand for competent leadership in Nigeria.
Former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has opened up about a revealing moment within his household during the 2023 general elections. He disclosed that his own daughter pressured him to form a political alliance with Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party.
Speaking during an interview on ARISE News, the former governor used this personal experience to illustrate a significant shift in the mindset of young Nigerians. He noted that the younger generation is moving away from the traditional voting blocks of religion and ethnicity. Instead, they are actively searching for leaders who can solve the country's pressing problems.
Kwankwaso explained that this disconnect between old political tactics and modern expectations is a major issue. According to him, many current leaders are out of touch. They fail to engage with the youth or understand the massive influence social media now plays in shaping political opinions.
He emphasized that young people are no longer interested in sentimental politics. They want credible leadership that delivers results. "People are talking of religion. Some people are talking of ethnicity, but the younger people are looking for the right leadership for this country," Kwankwaso stated.
