Elon Musk has announced that X platform is undergoing tweaking its algorithm to push more informative and entertaining content, and less of the angry, rage filled posts that have turned timelines into a daily battleground.
The update was shared by Musk himself in a series of posts, with full technical details promised via the official engineering handle @XEng.
What exactly is changing?
According to Musk, the tweak is simple but big.
"Algorithm tweak coming soon to promote more informational/entertaining content. We will publish the changes to @XEng. Our goal is to maximise unregretted user-seconds," Musk wrote.
In his explanation, he admitted something many users have felt for years. While negative content may increase user time on the platform, it does not contribute to what he termed unregretted user time.
In other words, you may scroll longer when you are angry, but you will not feel good about it later. X now wants to fix that.
The move is part of Musk’s broader vision to redefine how users interact with X, aiming to create a more positive and personalised experience.
End of rage bait era?
Sources close to the update say the new iteration is designed to curb political rage bait and improve content quality.
The company is leveraging its AI startup xAI to rebuild the For You feed. Musk said the xAI team is working on providing For You tabs that are specific to topics, so users can choose what they actually want to see at any moment.
This means instead of one chaotic For You page mixing politics, fights and viral drama, you could have separate, cleaner feeds for tech, sports, entertainment or news.
More control for you
Another big part of the update is user control.
Musk revealed that the platform is developing tools to give users greater control over their content feeds and easy ways to adjust the content feed dynamically, so you can have what you want at any given moment.
This builds on existing features like Mute Words, which lets you block specific words or phrases permanently or temporarily. Musk recently agreed the feature needs to be easier to find.
For Nigerian creators and everyday users, this is important. The current algorithm often rewards outrage. The new system is expected to reward posts that teach, inform or genuinely entertain.
Why this matters now
Since acquiring X in 2022, Musk has pushed to position the platform as a hub for meaningful conversation and entertainment. Earlier this year, on January 20, 2026, X published its full feed algorithm on GitHub and promised updates every four weeks with developer notes.
This latest friendly feed tweak is the next step. It does not mean debate will disappear. It means the algorithm will stop pushing the most toxic version of a debate just to keep you scrolling.
If it works, your timeline may finally feel less like a battleground and more like a place you actually want to spend time.
