No Surprise As APC Sweeps All 17 Chairmanship Seats in Enugu LG Polls

The All Progressives Congress, APC, has won all 17 chairmanship seats in the Enugu State local government elections.

The Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission, ENSIEC, declared the results on Sunday, bringing the September 26 council polls to a close.

ENSIEC Chairman, Prof. Christian Ngwu, announced the outcome at the commission's headquarters in Enugu. He declared all 17 APC candidates duly elected as chairmen of their respective local government areas.

The results show that Ugochukwu Nwanjoku won in Aninri, Okolo Uchenna Joseph in Awgu, Beloved Dan Anike in Enugu East, Onoh Ibenaku in Enugu North and Caleb Ani in Enugu South.

In Ezeagu, Vitalis Chinedu Ngwu emerged winner, while Martin Amadieze won in Igbo Etiti, Chris Onyekachi Simon in Igbo Eze North, Ugo Ferdinand Ukwueze in Igbo Eze South and Ani Brendan Emeka in Isi-Uzo.

Others declared elected are Mike Ogbuekwe in Nkanu East, John Ogbodo in Nkanu West and Jude Chinedu Asogwa in Nsukka.

In the remaining councils, Anyaegbudike Greg won in Oji River, Ezeoha Innocent in Udenu, Agu Hyginus in Udi and Ezeukwu Chijioke in Uzo-Uwani.

ENSIEC commends voters, security agencies

Announcing the results, Ngwu commended residents of the state for turning out to vote, saying their participation gave meaning to the electoral process.

He also thanked security agencies, civil society organisations and the media for their roles in ensuring a successful exercise.

The ENSIEC chairman congratulated the winners and urged them to see their election as a call to service.

Certificates of return issued

With the declaration of the 17 chairmanship results, the commission has formally concluded the chairmanship component of the council elections.

ENSIEC subsequently issued certificates of return to the newly elected chairmen.
