WIC to Launch Igbo Credit Union Bank at 2025 Convention in Boston

The World Igbo Congress (WIC) has announced plans to unveil the Igbo Federal Credit Union Bank at its 2025 convention, scheduled to hold from August 29 to 31 at the Marriott Hotel in Boston, Massachusetts.

In a statement signed by the Chairman of WIC, Dr. Festus Okere, the initiative is aimed at empowering Igbo-owned businesses in the diaspora while driving development efforts back home in the South-East. According to him, the move is inspired by the age-old Igbo apprenticeship model, which played a major role in rebuilding the region’s economy after the civil war.

“This year marks a turning point,” Okere said. “The establishment of the Igbo Federal Credit Union Bank in the U.S. will usher in a new era of prosperity, mirroring the success of our apprenticeship system. It’s not just about banking, it’s about rebuilding economic power.”

The 2025 convention is expected to attract one of the largest gatherings in WIC’s history, given current socio-political and economic realities facing Ndigbo both in Nigeria and abroad.

Among the top dignitaries expected are Chief Gaius Chibueze (popularly known as E-Money), Chairman of Faith Toyota, a Boston city representative, and Chief Valentine Igbobi, who currently serves as PCNI Chairman and Ochiagha of Ndigbo in New England.

Okere also revealed that Chief Igbobi has given full approval for People’s Club of Nigeria (Boston branch) to be well-represented at the event. The Umuada Igbo will also be in strong attendance, adding cultural depth to the gathering.

Speaking on the calibre of guests, WIC Vice Chairman, Hon. Basil Onwukwe, stressed that only public figures with a clean record and genuine commitment to the safety and progress of Igbo people will be invited.

“We’re not inviting just anybody holding office in Nigeria. All political guests will be vetted to ensure they have truly defended Igbo interests,” Onwukwe said.

The World Igbo Congress remains the highest umbrella body representing Ndigbo in the diaspora. This year's convention not only promises to be historic but also marks a bold step toward economic self-reliance for the Igbo nation.
