David Beckham Knighted by King Charles, Calls It His Proudest Moment
Former England captain and global football icon, David Beckham, has finally received his long-awaited knighthood from King Charles III at Windsor Castle on Tuesday, November 4. The 50-year-old described the recognition as his “proudest moment.”
Beckham, who represented England 115 times and played for elite clubs such as Manchester United and Real Madrid, was honoured for his remarkable contributions to sports and charity.
Speaking after the ceremony, Beckham said it was a surreal experience for “a boy from the East End of London” to stand before the King at Windsor Castle. “Being honoured by His Majesty the most respected institution in the world is without doubt my proudest moment,” he told the PA news agency.
Dressed sharply in a grey suit designed by his wife, Victoria Beckham, the football legend attended the ceremony with Victoria and his parents, Ted and Sandra Beckham. Beckham revealed that King Charles even complimented his outfit, noting that the monarch has always inspired his sense of style.
“He’s one of the most elegantly dressed men I know,” Beckham said with a smile. “He’s inspired many of my looks over the years and definitely this one.”
Since the honour was first announced in June, many have affectionately referred to him as “Sir David”, while Victoria is informally known as “Lady Beckham.”
Beckham expressed deep appreciation for the royal recognition, saying it holds special meaning because he has “always been a huge fan of the monarchy.”
“I’ve been fortunate to win trophies and achieve so much in football, but receiving this honour being knighted is something beyond my dreams,” he said.
The knighthood crowns Beckham’s evolution from football superstar to global cultural figure, bridging the worlds of sports, fashion, and business. It also comes after years of anticipation his initial nomination was delayed due to an alleged tax issue, from which he was later cleared.
