Edo police arrest 18-year-old Tega Emajuwa for kidnapping and killing his 12-year-old cousin, Emiliano Egwunbare.
The Edo State Police Command has launched a full investigation into the shocking murder of 12-year-old Emiliano Egwunbare, who was allegedly kidnapped and killed by his own cousin, 18-year-old Tega Emajuwa.
The tragic incident reportedly happened at Obagie community, in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State, on September 16, 2025. According to reports, Tega and two of his friends abducted the young boy and later demanded ransom from his parents.
Sources said Tega had lived with Emiliano’s parents for some months before carrying out the heartless act. Despite collecting the ransom, he never released the boy.
Police operatives later got involved and, through intelligence tracking, arrested Tega. After about a week in custody, he confessed to the crime and mentioned two accomplices 20-year-old Edugie Destiny and 23-year-old Osayande Vincent. Their confessions led the police to a well in the community, where the lifeless body of young Emiliano was found.
Confirming the incident, ASP Eno Ikoedem, Deputy Spokesperson of the Edo State Police Command, said the case was initially reported at Ogida Division but later transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping and Cybercrime Unit in Benin for further investigation.
According to her, “Following sustained intelligence, operatives arrested three suspects, Tega Emajuwa, Edugie Destiny, and Osayande Vincent — who all confessed to their involvement. Sadly, the victim’s remains were discovered inside a well and taken to the UBTH mortuary for autopsy.”
She also addressed a viral video where the deceased’s mother alleged that the suspects had been released. The police dismissed the claim, describing it as “false and misleading.”
“The suspects remain in lawful custody and have been charged to court since October 16, 2025, where they were remanded for prosecution,” Ikoedem clarified.
The Edo Police Command assured the public that justice will be served, as investigations continue into the disturbing case.
