Governor Charles Soludo of APGA wins big in Anambra election, securing re-election with a wide margin over his opponents.
It’s official Professor Charles Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has been re-elected as Governor of Anambra State after a resounding win across all 21 local government areas.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the results on Sunday, following Saturday’s governorship poll that recorded a total of 584,054 votes statewide.
Soludo, who contested under APGA, polled 422,664 votes, leaving his main challenger, Nicholas Ukachukwu of the APC, far behind with 99,445 votes. Other parties trailed with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) scoring 8,208 votes, while the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) managed only 1,401 votes.
The State Collation Officer, Prof. Edogah Omoregie, who also serves as Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin, declared the results at INEC’s headquarters in Awka.
From Aguata to Onitsha, Awka to Nnewi, Soludo maintained a commanding lead in every local government area. Below are highlights from the key LGAs:
Aguata LGA: APGA – 35,559 | APC – 4,125
Orumba North LGA: APGA – 24,664 | APC – 2,615
Onitsha North LGA: APGA – 24,225 | APC – 4,677
Awka South LGA: APGA – 27,896 | APC – 5,038
Anambra West LGA: APGA – 71,365 | APC – 16,595
The margin of victory underscores Soludo’s continued stronghold in the state, reaffirming APGA’s dominance in Anambra politics.
Governor Soludo is now set to begin his second term in office, with supporters describing his victory as a vote of confidence in his leadership and reforms over the past four years.
