Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have arrested a 27-year-old man, Desmond Obodo Chilota, in connection with the illegal possession and movement of restricted tramadol drugs.

The arrest was carried out by officers attached to the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Squad during a routine security patrol in the early hours of January 18, 2026.

According to the police, the suspect was intercepted around 6:13 a.m. in the Uwani area of Enugu while posing as a dispatch rider.

He was reportedly transporting a large quantity of tramadol drugs on a red Kymco motorcycle, which was also recovered at the scene.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed the development in a statement released to journalists on Monday.

Less than an hour later, at about 7:12 a.m., the same patrol team made another recovery at Onu-Asata in the Ogui area of the state.

Officers found an abandoned bag containing substances suspected to be crystal methamphetamine, locally referred to as mkpuru mmiri, alongside an Android mobile phone.

Police believe the suspects behind the second discovery fled immediately after sighting the patrol team.

He also urged residents to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and supportive of security agencies in maintaining public safety.
