Peter Obi Knocks Tinubu Over N10bn Aso Rock Solar Power Move

Peter Obi criticizes President Tinubu’s N10bn solar plan for Aso Rock as the national grid remains in crisis.

Peter Obi criticizing President Tinubu over national grid failure and Aso Rock solar budget.

Peter Obi has called out President Bola Tinubu for allegedly turning his back on the national grid while the rest of the country continues to live in darkness.

The former Labour Party presidential candidate reminded Nigerians of Tinubu's bold campaign promise. During his run for office, the President had urged citizens not to vote for him a second time if he failed to fix the country's electricity woes.

However, Obi pointed out that 32 months into the current administration, the situation has only worsened. Instead of the promised "stable light," the national grid has suffered frequent collapses, leaving homes and businesses in frustration.

What seems to have triggered Obi’s latest reaction is the government's plan to spend billions of Naira on solar energy for the Presidential Villa.

He noted that the 2025 budget includes roughly ₦10 billion for solar power at Aso Rock, with even more money set aside for upgrades in 2026. Obi described this move as a "disconnect" from the reality facing ordinary Nigerians.

According to him, it is worrisome when the seat of power decides to abandon the national grid for private solar solutions. He argued that if those in charge stop using the system, they will have no motivation to fix it for the public.

"You cannot tell the people to fast while you are feasting," Obi remarked. He stressed that while renewable energy is good, using it to isolate the leadership from the struggles of the masses shows a lack of compassion.

Obi concluded by stating that Nigerians don't expect perfection, but they do expect their leaders to show honest effort and stay connected to the daily hardships of the people they serve.
