The Middle East has been plunged into a fresh crisis after the United States and Israel launched a series of heavy air strikes against Iran on Saturday.

This major escalation follows weeks of failed diplomatic talks regarding Iran's nuclear ambitions.

President Donald Trump confirmed the start of what he described as a "massive and ongoing" military campaign. According to the President, the mission is designed to stop Iran’s leadership from threatening American security. He vowed that the operation would dismantle Iran's missile industry entirely.

Explosions have already been reported in several key locations, including the capital city of Tehran. Other cities like Isfahan, Qom, and Karaj have also been hit.

Social media footage verified by news outlets shows thick smoke rising over the Iranian skyline.

In response, Iran has shut down its airspace and ordered all schools to move to remote learning. Iranian state media described the attacks as an act of aggression and warned that a "crushing response" is currently being prepared.

The Israeli government has declared a national state of emergency. Defense Minister Israel Katz called the move a "preemptive strike" to neutralize immediate threats.

Only hours after the initial bombardment, sirens began wailing across Israel as the military detected retaliatory missiles launched from Iranian territory.

This conflict did not appear out of thin air. Tensions have been boiling since the US bombed Iranian nuclear sites back in June. While diplomats had been meeting in Geneva as recently as Thursday, those talks clearly failed to reach a breakthrough.

Military officials in Washington have been preparing for this move for weeks, moving warships and fighter jets into the region. However, some top military leaders have privately expressed concerns about the risks of a long-term war and the potential for high casualties on both sides.

For now, the world watches as both the US and Israel brace for what comes next. The duration of this military operation remains unknown, but the immediate impact has already reshaped the region's stability.
