The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has confirmed the arrest of four individuals suspected to be bandits near the Akure Airport in Ondo State.

This development follows a high-level security alert raised on Sunday regarding suspicious movements around the facility.

‎Henry Agbebire, FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, revealed that the suspects were spotted behind the airport perimeter, close to the Eleyewo community. A distress call triggered an immediate response from a combined team of security agencies.

‎The operation involved Aviation Security (AVSEC) personnel, the Nigerian Air Force, the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police, and local security outfits, including Amotekun and community vigilantes.

While some individuals attempted to flee the scene, four were successfully apprehended. They have since been transferred to the Police Area Command for interrogation.

‎Agbebire lauded the synergy between the agencies, noting that such collaboration is vital for maintaining safety.

‎Through the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, the Presidency has accelerated the installation of modern perimeter fencing across the country.

According to Agbebire, work has already commenced in phases to shield airports from unlawful access.

‎FAAN has reiterated its resolve to protect travelers and host communities, ensuring that airport facilities remain secure against all threats.
