The Nigerian Army mourns the loss of gallant troops killed in fierce battles against terrorists in Borno and Katsina states.
The Nigerian Army is currently in a period of mourning following deadly encounters with terrorists in Borno and Katsina states.
Scores of soldiers, including high-ranking officers, have paid the supreme price while defending their bases.
Among the fallen are a Lieutenant Colonel, who was a commanding officer in Borno, and Captain Paul Hassan, who died in the Katsina operation. The Army has described these men as brave patriots who fought for the nation.
In Borno, terrorists launched coordinated attacks on military locations in Ngoshe, Konduga, and Marte. The assaults, which happened over two days, led to heavy casualties. Although the troops successfully repelled the attackers, the cost was high.
The Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, bid farewell to the troops during a burial ceremony. He reminded everyone that freedom is not free, praising the soldiers for placing duty above self.
Meanwhile, the situation in Katsina resulted in a significant victory for the troops despite the losses. A fierce gun battle in Danmusa Local Government Area left 45 terrorists dead.
Among those neutralised were key figures in the banditry network, including a top commander known as Iti. The clash started when bandits attempted to rustle cattle but met stiff resistance from soldiers.
State governments in both regions have pledged to support the families of the deceased. The Army has assured the public that the sacrifices of these fallen heroes will never be forgotten.
