Enugu leaders declare unwavering support for President Tinubu's 2027 re-election, citing economic reforms and federal backing.
Top political figures from Enugu State have declared their full backing for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election. The endorsement happened on Tuesday during a high-level meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Governor Peter Mbah led the heavyweights to the seat of power. The delegation assume to speak for more than seven million residents of the state.
The list of attendees was impressive. It cut across different political eras and offices. The Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Dr. Kingsley Udeh, was there. So was the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke.
Former Senate President Ken Nnamani made the trip. Former military and civilian leaders also joined. They included Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, Sullivan Chime, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, and Jim Nwobodo. National Assembly members, traditional rulers, religious figures, and academics completed the team.
President Tinubu received the group warmly. He said the visible growth across states proves his economic policies are working. He also praised state governors for using their increased allocations to improve lives.
The President noted that opposition governors are now aligning with the ruling party because the reforms are yielding results. He specifically pointed out that Governor Mbah's support stems from the federal government's steady backing for Enugu.
Tinubu did not hold back on his praise for the Enugu governor. He called Mbah a transformative leader who is turning things around.
He said security, infrastructure, education, and healthcare are improving. This proves that tough economic decisions are paying off.
The President also touched on critical infrastructure. He promised more action on the Port-Harcourt to Enugu railway line and power sector reforms.
He assured the leaders that funding challenges for long-term projects are now a thing of the past.
Tinubu took a subtle swipe at past administrations. He accused them of privatizing electricity and leaving the country in darkness. He vowed to fix the power issue and build a nation of hope.
He also addressed critics directly. He urged his supporters to ignore the naysayers and stay focused. He stressed that he does not lose sleep over criticism. His main goal, he said, is to secure a better future for the next generation.
Governor Mbah set the tone for the visit. He said the delegation came to show solidarity and appreciation for the President's vision. He stressed that the people of Enugu do not take federal assistance for granted.
The governor made a bold declaration. He promised that Enugu would stand firmly with Tinubu at the polls in 2027. He credited the President for breaking the political distance between the South-East and the federal government.
Mbah reminded the President of his January 4, 2025, visit to Enugu. On that trip, Tinubu commissioned several landmark projects. The governor said this showed true friendship, especially since the region did not vote for the APC in the previous election.
Former Senate President Ken Nnamani echoed the governor's sentiments. He stated that the leaders came to say a massive thank you. He praised Governor Mbah for utilizing federal support effectively.
Nnamani confirmed that the entire seven million population of Enugu would have loved to visit the Villa if possible. He ended by firmly stating that the state would back Tinubu's bid for a second term.
