Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation HADIN KAI, have dealt a severe blow to terrorist elements in the North East. In a decisive encounter early Thursday, the soldiers neutralized 24 attackers after a fierce gun battle that tested the military’s combat readiness.

The incident occurred around midnight on April 23, 2026, targeting the Kukareta axis. According to reports, the terrorists launched an offensive, hoping to catch the troops off guard. However, the soldiers responded with immense firepower, forcing the attackers to retreat in disarray after three hours of intense fighting.

Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the Media Information Officer for the Joint Task Force, confirmed the success of the operation. He revealed that troops displayed great tactical discipline, inflicting heavy casualties on the enemy while limiting their own losses.

The battlefield sweep following the clash yielded a significant haul of weaponry. Soldiers recovered 18 AK-47 rifles, three General Purpose Machine Guns, and two PKT anti-aircraft guns. Other items seized include RPG tubes, mortar tubes, hand grenades, and a large stock of ammunition. The volume of recovered arms suggests the attackers were heavily equipped for a major assault.

While the troops secured a victory, two soldiers sustained injuries and are currently in stable condition. An armoured tank supporting the operation also suffered damage. However, the military remains undeterred. Lt. Col. Uba noted that blood trails found along the terrorists' withdrawal routes indicate that many more insurgents were injured or killed than the initial count suggests.

This victory is part of a broader offensive to clear the region of criminal elements. It follows recent successful air strikes around the Lake Chad axis and ambush operations in Gwoza, signalling a sustained push by the Nigerian military to end terrorism in the region.
