Ganduje reacts to Kwankwaso, claiming he was once his political protégé and calling for peace in Kano politics.
Former APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje has fired back at Rabiu Kwankwaso. He declared that the NNPP leader was once his political protégé.
Ganduje made this known on Friday through his Chief of Staff, Comrade Muhammad Garba. The statement was issued from Saudi Arabia, where the ex-governor is currently performing the Hajj pilgrimage.
He reminded the public that politics thrives on relationships and mentorship. Every successful politician, he noted, gets a helping hand at some point.
Ganduje claimed he heavily backed Kwankwaso's early political rise. He said he supported his journey to the House of Representatives and his later emergence as Deputy Speaker.
According to him, Kwankwaso frequently visited his offices in Abuja and Kano for political discussions in those early days.
"I also have the right to say Kwankwaso was once my political boy because I supported him," Ganduje stated.
He also revisited the 1998 Kano political scene. Ganduje revealed he actually won the governorship primary back then but stepped down for unity. That sacrifice paved the way for him to serve as Kwankwaso's deputy.
Despite their famous disagreements, Ganduje noted they worked together for Kano's progress from 1999 to 2003, and again between 2011 and 2015.
The former governor, however, asked politicians to drop tags like "godfather" and "political son." He believes the real focus should be on quality leadership and people's development.
On the current Kano State governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, Ganduje was conciliatory. He acknowledged that Yusuf once served under him but stressed that he now holds the elected office of governor and deserves respect.
Ganduje finally appealed to politicians and their supporters in Kano. He urged them to avoid statements that deepen divisions, calling for a united focus on peace and progress in the state.
