Italian priest Sandro Ferretto quits priesthood to marry Kenyan Sharon Jepng'ok in Baringo traditional rite.
A Catholic priest from Italy has traded his cassock for traditional marriage rites after wedding his Kenyan lover in Baringo County.
The man at the centre of the story is Sandro Ferretto. He was once a parish priest serving in Kasiela and Mochongoi, two mission stations in Baringo.
Reports gathered confirmed Ferretto came to the region years ago for missionary work. During his stay, he became close to the local community and settled into pastoral service.
It was in the course of that work that he met Sharon Jepng'ok, a young Tugen woman from the area. Sharon, also called Sandra, is the daughter of former councillor John Wendot.
What started as a simple encounter grew into a relationship. Sources close to the family said the two became fond of each other over time.
Ferretto later made a difficult personal decision. He stepped away from the priesthood to pursue a family life with Sharon.
The couple has now formalized their union. They held a colourful traditional wedding ceremony at Seretion Village in Kasiela, Baringo South.
Photos and short videos from the ceremony have surfaced online. In the clips, the couple is seen in full traditional attire, surrounded by family members, elders and villagers celebrating with them.
The wedding has sparked wide conversation in Kenya and beyond. Many residents say they knew Ferretto as a dedicated priest, and were surprised to see his journey take a new turn.
For the community in Baringo, the ceremony was both a celebration and a talking point. It marked the end of one chapter for the Italian missionary and the beginning of another as a family man in the same land where he once preached.
