Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have successfully crushed a series of coordinated midnight attacks by ISWAP in Borno.
Nigerian soldiers under the operation Hadin Kai have once again proven their mettle by stopping a series of midnight raids launched by ISWAP terrorists across Borno State.
The insurgents attempted to overrun three different military bases between the late hours of February 28 and the early morning of March 1.
The coordinated strikes targeted Forward Operating Bases in the Mayanti, Gajigana, and Gajiram communities. However, the troops were ready. In the fierce gun battles that followed, 11 terrorists were neutralized as the military successfully defended their positions.
Breaking down the encounters, five insurgents were killed in Mayanti, three in Gajiram, and two others during the failed incursion at Gajigana.
Sadly, the military paid a price for this victory, as one officer lost his life in Mayanti, while a soldier sustained injuries during the Gajiram battle.
The spokesperson for the Joint Task Force, Lt. Col. Sanni Uba, revealed that the attackers didn't come lightly. They used advanced weaponry, including RPG launchers and even armed drones.
Despite the heavy fire, the troops held their ground with the help of air support, eventually forcing the terrorists to retreat in disarray.
A massive haul of weapons was recovered from the scene. The items include anti-aircraft guns, AK-47 rifles, mortar bombs, and an armed drone that the fleeing insurgents left behind.
In a related victory at Kayawa village, troops intercepted a logistics ring for the group. They arrested two suspected suppliers and seized motorcycles, a tricycle, and a large stock of drugs and medical supplies meant for treating wounded fighters.
The military has assured residents that all affected bases remain firmly under control. These successful operations continue to weaken the remaining strength of terrorist elements across the North-East.
