The long-serving Iranian Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has reportedly died following a targeted Israeli airstrike in Tehran.

According to reports from Fox News, Israeli leadership confirmed that a precision strike in the heart of downtown Tehran early Saturday morning reduced Khamenei’s official compound and offices to rubble.

The strike is part of a wider military operation launched by Israel and the United States against Iranian targets.

Known as the Middle East’s longest-serving autocrat, Khamenei’s leadership was defined by a ruthless commitment to his ideology. Behnam Ben Taleblu, a senior director at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD), noted that while Khamenei was an ideologue, he was a calculated survivor who prioritized the protection of his regime above all else.

The news follows a massive escalation in the region after the Israeli military and U.S. forces initiated a series of strikes across Iran this weekend.

Local reports indicate that the destruction at the Supreme Leader's residence was near-total, leaving the capital in a state of high tension.

Born on April 19, 1939, in Mashhad, Khamenei rose to prominence as a key figure in the 1979 Islamic Revolution. He played a central role in the movement that overthrew the U.S.-backed Shah, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, eventually succeeding Ayatollah Khomeini to lead the nation for over three decades.

As news of his death spreads, the international community is bracing for the potential fallout in what is being described as the end of an era for the Islamic Republic.
